Mike Edwards represents clients charged with all traffic charges, criminal matters and child custody cases on a daily basis and he has worked as a courtroom trial lawyer since 1985.
Mike was born in Marion, McDowell County, North Carolina and, following law school, chose to return home to practice law. He spent over seven years serving McDowell and Rutherford counties as Chief Assistant DA. Since 1995, Mike has defended clients daily in the courtrooms of McDowell and Rutherford counties who are charged with traffic offenses, serious felonies and misdemeanor crimes and child custody cases.
Mike was chosen by the citizens of McDowell as “Best Attorney in McDowell County” in a McDowell News reader’s poll conducted in 2005 & 2007. He was honored by law enforcement officers as District Attorney of the Year on two separate occasions.
Mike graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982. He is a 1985 graduate of the UNC School of Law.

As a chief trial prosecutor in the five county district, Mike Edwards achieved a conviction rate of 85% in the jury trials that he served as the lead prosecutor.
Mike has worked as a criminal defense attorney and child custody trial attorney since 1995. His active practice keeps him in the courtroom on a daily basis and he has represented thousands of clients in criminal, traffic and custody/divorce court.
As defense counsel in criminal jury trials, Mike has won acquittals in 81% of the trials in which he has served as the lead defense counsel through April of 2007.
